Three Way Independent School District is a rural 1A district serving students across Erath and Somervell Counties. In 1947, the communities of Pony Creek, Chalk Mountain, and Johnsville united to form Three Way ISD. What began as three small country schools has grown into a thriving PK–12 district that continues to honor its roots while preparing students for the future.

In 2017, Three Way ISD broke ground on a new high school facility, and by 2018, students moved into the new building. Today, the district serves approximately 205 students and offers a four-day school week, career and technical education programs, and competitive athletics. Students have access to programs of study in areas such as Animal Science, Plant Science, Welding and Fabrication, Graphic Design and Multimedia, Education and Training, and Health Science, ensuring pathways that fit a variety of interests and future goals.

Despite its size, Three Way ISD provides big opportunities;  small class sizes allow for individualized instruction, personal relationships, and a strong sense of community. Teachers know their students by name, and parents are active partners in the learning process.

At Three Way ISD, we believe in empowering learners, supporting educators, and connecting the community.

Through the Education Foundation, Tribe Youth Sports Association, and strong community involvement, we work hand in hand with parents, local organizations, and volunteers to create meaningful opportunities for our students.

Additional Resources

Three Way ISD operates on a four-day school week with early-release Fridays built in for professional development, planning, and family time. We also offer after-school tutoring and summer school to help students meet their academic goals.

Our classrooms are equipped with modern technology, including 1:1 student devices, Clever integration, and Google Classroom access, ensuring students are future-ready in a digital world.

The district is committed to maintaining safe and secure campuses, with SRO Don Miller and Safety Director Mike Williams working closely with staff to ensure the safety of all students and personnel.

Sustainable Learning for Our Future

Three Way ISD is dedicated to preparing students for life beyond the classroom through sustainable, hands-on learning that connects academics, agriculture, and real-world experience. As a small rural district, we believe in teaching responsibility, stewardship, and pride in hard work—values that build a foundation for lifelong success.

Our approach to learning emphasizes real-world application and career readiness through our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in Animal Science, Plant Science, Welding & Fabrication, Graphic Design & Multimedia, Education & Training, and Health Science.

Students gain meaningful experience through projects that promote sustainability and self-sufficiency—right here on our campus. Our student-built chicken coop provides opportunities for Animal Science students to care for live animals, learn about life cycles, and understand agricultural systems. Our school garden serves as a hands-on classroom where students study plant growth, soil conservation, and nutrition while contributing to a campus-wide effort to learn about food sources and sustainability.

Three Way ISD also proudly supports a growing FFA program, where students take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in leadership competitions, livestock projects, and community service. These experiences teach responsibility, teamwork, and the value of agriculture in daily life.

In addition to agriculture-based learning, students have opportunities to earn Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) such as OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, Floral Design, Welding, and Adobe software certifications. These credentials give students a head start in college and career pathways while connecting academic learning to real-world success.

At Three Way ISD, sustainability isn’t just about the environment—it’s about creating experiences that prepare students to lead, work, and thrive in their communities for years to come.
